-Gates called this Minnesota game a "big opportunity." Said it's a remarkable venue to play in.
-Gates wants to be able to continue to be who they are on the court. Said they'll learn at lot on the road.
-Gates said they need to continue taking care of the basketball. Said the assist-to-turnover ratio needs to come up to 2-to-1. Said they need to remember the lessons they learned from the past three games.
-On Minnesota, Gates thinks they have really good size at each position, which puts Mizzou at risk of putting them at the free throw line. Said the Tigers need to make their way to the stripe themselves.
-Gates said Connor Vanover being able to practice has been helpful, said he's been into each game emotionally and mentally, coaching his behind off. He doesn't want Vanover swinging for home runs in his first opportunities, he just needs hits.
-Communication is going to be key on defense, especially playing on the road where the crowd won't be on their side.
-Gates said he still thinks Nick Honor is too unselfish. He cares too much about what his teammates think - "He just doesn't shoot enough for me." He said he loves how patient Nick is, but he wants him to be aggressive too. Said there are other guys on the team he feels the same way about, naming Aidan Shaw and Tamar Bates as examples.
-Gates said he has a lot of respect for Ben Johnson. They're close to the same age, played in college around the same time and have come up together as coaches. Called him a "tremendous student of the game." Thinks Johnson's best coaching is ahead of him and thinks he'll be on the sideline as a head coach for 20+ years.
-Gates said it's fitting that the two teams are playing each other as the schools are trying to reinvigorate their basketball programs. Gates said instead of waiting on a lesser opponent, they wanted to go ahead and schedule a competitive matchup. Gates said the first game he ever coached
-Gates said Kaleb Brown is over the flu-like illness but he's still dealing with his shin bruise. He'll travel with the team to Minnesota but they're going to be cautious with him. He's a game-time decision.
-Nick Honor is perfectly fine and will play tomorrow. Said he kept himself out of the game against SIUE to let Ant Robinson get reps.
