COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri softball's Kimberly Wert received SEC Player of the Week honors after breaking the Mizzou all-time home run record against South Carolina, the conference office announced on Tuesday.

The fifth-year senior from Melfa, Va. batted .538 on the week with a double, a home run, and four RBI. In the series sweep of South Carolina, she drove in a go-ahead run in the first inning of all three contests.

On Friday night against the Gamecocks, Wert had a big day at the plate. She drove in the first run of the game with a single to right in the first inning and added a two-out single in the bottom of the third that started a rally leading to a pair of Mizzou runs.

She then made history in the fifth inning with her solo home run to right center, becoming the program leader in home runs with the 48th of her Mizzou career. She finished the night going 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.

Wert again drove in the first run of the ballgame on Saturday with a two-out RBI single to left.

In the series finale, the fifth-year senior drove a two-out double off the center field wall to put the Tigers on top 1-0 in the first. She added a single in the third inning before she was walked intentionally in the fifth.

Wert broke the Tigers' home run record of 47 held by Jen Bruck that had stood for 13 seasons. With her record-breaking home run, she moved into the top ten of Mizzou's all-time RBI leaders. She finished the week in ninth with 141 career RBI.

Wert is the third Tiger to earn SEC weekly honors in 2022, joining Casidy Chaumont and Kara Daly. She is the first Tiger to receive outright SEC Player of the Week honors since Rylee Pierce in 2018.
