BASKETBALL QUICK THOUGHTS ON MIZZOU VS. LSU AT THE HALF

-Well, it was a really good-looking first 11 minutes and then a really rough looking last 9. The team went from making everything to making nothing. When Dennis Gates says that he didn't think his team played a very good game, even in a 17-point win over Iowa State, this is the type of stuff he means. This is another game where Mizzou should up by 20ish and instead they're up by half that.

-Remember when Mizzou was in a shooting slump? Lol

-I think this is another game where Mizzou's been ok on the boards. LSU is up 19-15, but both teams have 5 second-chance points. The only reason LSU has the edge is because they've had more misses to rebound.

-The defense let up down the stretch of the first half, but it looked downright dominant to start the game. You often hear defensive football coaches talk about "flying to the ball." That's what helped Mizzou establish its lead early on. The rotations weren't as sharp late. There was a play where Kobe's man pitched the ball backward to an open shooter at the top of the key. And Kobe realized too late that he was supposed to be the guy to close out on him, and the dude made the 3. That kind of stuff was happening a lot, along with some careless fouls.

-I believe this is only the sixth game Kobe and Noah Carter both have at least 10 points in a game. This is definitely the earliest they've both hit double digits. I think Mizzou is 3-2 when it happens.

Meant to include this in ten thoughts

This is an interview with the dude that had the late hit that basically allowed the Chiefs to win

I post it for a few reasons:

First the guy played great. He made a terrible play at a terrible time and he will probably remember it forever

Second kudos to him for answering questions

Third kudos to his teammates for supporting him

Finally, this is where college coaches and athletic departments are failing kids. If that play happens in college not only do we not talk to the kid that day, we probably never do. They all have a goal of playing in the NFL. This is part of it in the NFL. The media is treating the guy respectfully. Nobody is trying to crap on him or villainize him or make him feel worse than he already does. His role is a big part of the story and they asked him about it. I would bet most people will appreciate him for facing the music and treat him pretty well. That would happen even more so with college kids, media and fans. But coaches and administrations are too focused on shutting everyone out and convincing kids the media is all out to get them as enemies of the program to allow for on the job training and personal growth.
