In Pinkels final 4 classes 20 of 32 of his top 8 recruits in each class did not play beyond their 3 year, most never contributing. 2015 4 of the top 8, 2014 5 of the top 8, 2013 6 of the top 8, 2012 5 of the top 8.
3 of the top four of every class were also not there in their 3rd year.(This does not include Jucos for Pinkel) That's 12 of his top 16 recruits his last 4 years.
If you go deeper it gets just as bad. 30 of his top 48 recruits we're not contributing in their 3rd year. The 2016 class was 6-12, 1 of 3 being Odom recruits, with two of the top 4, and 3 of the top 8 washing out.
2017 and 2018 for Odom currently has 4-12 both years, 3-8 both years and 2-4 in 2017 and 1-4 in 2018 not with the program. WR being the most obvious loss.(it does include Jucos that left).
All this to say while the results on the field were good in 2013 and 2014 what remained of the best of his recruiting classes was not. Many of these numbers do not include the Pinkel Online, Dline, WR and DB recruits that didnt stay with the program either. Both BO and GP made a habit of identifying under recruited talent and most of those have been our NFL guys normally. Lock and Beckner are the exception.
