Watching his recruitment take off in January, Tony Forney Jr. scheduled Missouri for his final official visit of the summer.
The Class of 2026 three-star nickel will get to see the Tigers on June 20-22 before an NCAA Dead Period. It marked his first official visit he scheduled, being the best time to get to Columbia.
Assistant linebackers coach Christopher Ball visited Marietta (Ga.) Kell on Jan. 22 to get Forney up to speed on the Tigers and plugged in with the coaches.
Safeties coach Jacob Yoro offered Forney that day over the phone, while also targeting Marietta (Ga.) Kell safety Jowell Combay -- who scheduled an official visit to Missouri for May 30-June 1.
"I feel like me and Jowell feel very good about Mizzou as a school and with the coaches, because we talk about them a lot," Forney said.
Yoro randomly checks in with Forney about what's new each week, bringing up Combay in conversations since the two defensive backs have similar class schedules. That consistency, even calling during his own workouts, has put Yoro near the top of Forney's relationships.
"He was just telling me about himself, ways that he can play me on the field, ways he can develop me as a player and as a man," Forney said. "I feel like he's a good dude. He's a good coach."
Yoro described Forney as versatile in the secondary, giving a defense an opportunity to rotate him between safety, nickelback and cornerback. Forney, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound defensive back, totaled 30 tackles and 15 interceptions in his junior season.
Prior to his offer, Forney hadn't paid much attention to the Tigers, but one play from a highlight reel he watched did: Clemson transfer cornerback Toriano Pride Jr. snagging a pick-six against Murray State in Week 1. Forney also crossed paths with fellow Marietta product Mark Manfred, a freshman cornerback at Missouri, during 7-on-7 tournaments.
Forney is looking into official visits with LSU, Maryland, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin. He will also visit Missouri for an unofficial visit and spring practice in March.
