Rewatched the Iowa St game this morning, on TV this time versus being in the stadium. Again, damn this team is going to be fun to watch. Just a couple thoughts I had rewatching:
Overall, this team has the makeup to be very special. They are going to lose some games they shouldn't, that's college basketball and we are very young. If they can continue to grow towards March though, we could be a 8-10 loss team that nobody wants to see on their side of the bracket
- Tilmon is an absolute monster, and this is without MPJ on the floor. He was finding ways to score and set up his teammates while being double and triple teamed. Once MPJ is back, defenses can't afford to do that, which will open his impact even more.
- Kassius is going to be the centerpiece of this team. Saw him giving the pregame speech in the huddle, very vocal on both sides of the ball, and much more than the shooter reputation he had from Canisius
- On that note, I think it's clear than Kassius needs to eventually play the 2. I think he's a much better player off ball on offense, and that opens the floor even more. He took a couple of off balanced shots that were merely a result of trying to create off the dribble. As Harris matures through the year, I expect him to move into that starting PG role.
- Geist was electric. As much as some in this board like to dog on him, he earned his minutes. Plays hard nose defense and uses his body extremely well when guarding bigger guards.
- Defense as a whole is going to be incredible this year. Aside from CVL (and Phillips in some situations) there is nobody on this roster who can't efficiently switch onto bigger/smaller players. That is a HUGE deal down the road. Our 2s can pester 4s and our 4s can stay in front of 2s. Big factor for a primarily man to man team.
