Back in the dark ages of my youth, I can only remember "the shift" being employed against one player: Ted Williams. And Teddy Ballgame was skilled and arrogant enough to not even try to go to left (even though I'm sure he could); he would just precisely place the ball between the fielders or hit it over the wall.
Now, it seems we see the shift against pull-hitting left-handed batters all the time. Moose and Morales on the Royals are constant targets.
So here's the question: why isn't a mirror-image shift used against right-handed pull-hitters?
I was able to come up with one plausible explanation, and my son-in-law came up with another. I'm curious what the baseball aficionados on this board think.
