It’s no surprise at all that posters who have NEVER been on board with Odom since the day he was announced as head coach are calling for his ouster as soon as possible. Predictable not only after losses, but even less than scintillating wins.

I have been pretty much an agnostic about Barry. I like him personally, think he has a lot of qualities I want in a Mizzou head coach, and my default position is to support the coach and pull for him and the team to succeed. So I’m not coming from a decidedly negative disposition.

I’m not campaigning for his dismissal, but I sure wouldn’t go to battle for him at this point. I’ve seen too many bad things in his regime to keep giving him a pass. These are nearly entirely his players, save a few seniors. These are his coaches.

I understand he doesn’t drop a pass, blow a pass coverage assignment, or false start. But all mistakes, mental or physical, ultimately are his responsibility. This team still excels at beating itself, and just isn’t good enough to overcome both the opponent and ourselves.

The defense, particularly pass defense has barely improved, if at all. I have no idea what Ryan Walters is trying to do. Other teams manage to cover our “high powered” offense. The rare occasions that our secondary is in position to intercept,we can’t catch the ball for an interception. More often though, opponents are open with no Tiger in the picture.

The lack of discipline is breathtaking. False starts are terrible, but worse is getting baited by smacktalkers into retaliating, with a nearly automatic 15 yard drive killing penalty ensuing.

I could bitch that it seems MU never is on the good side of a review (though I was in W. Lafayette to see one late against Purdue), but that’s a copout. Losers point to officiating, weather, injuries, and every other excuse. Barry Odom needs to own this loss, and IMHO, if he doesn’t exhibit a highly unlikely change in the culture, I will not be arguing for him to get an extension.

I am not a happy camper this afternoon.
