I know I'll get ridiculed at this point for saying this, but I wish the overly optimistic rhetoric around here would calm down a little bit. Let me be clear, I'm as ecstatic as anyone with our start and the potential this team has to do some special things this year, and man do I hope it plays out that way.

But the level of arrogance that is starting to take over portions of this board because of a 5-0 start is a little silly at this point. A lot of people on here are treating a W against LSU as a foregone conclusion and assuming we'll be able to throttle their defense the same way Ole Miss did. I've seen posts talking about us having a "good" chance at making the CFP. It honestly reminds me a little of reading the fan boards of some of the fan bases we lament around here.

The reality is at the beginning of the season, the vast majority of everyone here (even the doom and gloomers) were projecting we'd be at 4-1 right now with a descent chance at 5-0. You can't get to 8, 9, 10 wins without starting 5-0, so that's great. But when comparing back to those early season prognostications, we really haven't done anything yet which makes this season anything special, not yet. The offense is far, far better than expected which I know provides the sense of optimism. The defense is less stellar than hoped, particularly through the air, which is really concerning heading into conference play.

Point being, I get the excitement and the optimism, and the possibilities that are still ahead of us having started 5-0. But can we let the team do something great first before comparing this season to 07 and 13, or pounding our chest like we're the hottest shit in college football. Beat LSU, then you're talking. Take it to Kentucky on the road, then we have something special on our hands. Until then though, we really haven't accomplished anything yet that wasn't within the realm of general expectations at the beginning of the year. Not yet.
