The officer handled his business perfectly, protecting himself, his partner, and the suspect. Of course, he was punished for this by being heavily charged by a Virginia prosecutor. Obviously, he walked, but only after having to endure the torture of being labeled racist and the prospect of losing his career and going to prison.
IMO LEOs should have quicker triggers with their Taser. Tasers are only 50% effective because officers often wait until the interaction escalates and the target becomes dynamic. There are optimal scenarios to increase its effectiveness and this officer took advantage of his opportunity to de-escalate. At any closer distance, if the interaction reaches a hands-on level, or if the suspect runs, Tasers are nearly useless. That’s the stage of arrest resistance when shootings occur. Outstanding work by this LEO. The prosecutor can die in a fire for what he did.
