Coach Odom says he is a part of a rebuild. If that is true, then the program had to be broken when he stepped in. I think I would like some clarity here.
Three years ago, our program was in the SEC championship game. We played and won a New Year's bowl game.
The following year was tough, but due to the stability of the program, most would say we were rebuilding. 2015 was the year Mauk fell apart and eventually left the team. I would argue that, had he stayed mentally healthy and remained a Tiger, that season would have been different. Remember, the defense in '15 was AWESOME, among the very best in the country. The program was a long way from being broken.
It's debatable to see the effects of the protests. We know now that the team wasn't as unified as we were led to believe.
Exit Pinkel, enter Barry Odom. A players coach, a guy within the system, supposedly able to provide continuity. Since then, things seem to be much worse.
So, my original point: Was the program really, truly "broken" when Odom took over? The system was good, we had an off year, but, had Pinkel returned, I think we would have expected at least a bowl game in 2016.
