have seen lots of mention of this from Saturday's game....I'm almost positive that the coaches instructed Maty not to keep on these the other day. Idk if they just wanted to hide something or didn't want to risk banging him up or what but those were most certainly designed that way. Since its SEMO I kind of get it but if we are gonna keep running this we need to do one of these three things to keep the backside DE at home:
1. Let Maty actually read it- Assuming he can read this, Maty needs to keep it some. Maty is pretty athletic and has a chance to be a real weapon w his feet. I'm not suggesting treat him like a piece of meat but if they think they have a capable guy in Lock the reigns on Maty should be freed up w regards to him running
2. Let Wingo play some slot and use him in motion on jet sweeps- Wingos skill set is perfect for this IMO. I can't figure how we can't find some packages for him anyway. He had a great spring and seemed to be pretty productive in fall scrimmages. If they're not comfortable w him and the whole playbook then fine but I'm not convinced we have anyone on the roster (now that JJ is out) that can do the things he can do. One thing that's always frustrated me w this staff is keeping some young players on the pine bcuz they don't know the whole playbook. One exception to this was DGB in 12 but I think Wingo needs some reps....I'm assuming he hasn't practiced well and if that's the case I hope that changes because I'd like to see a role for him, maybe like Murph.
3. This is the least likely option but would be the most effective to kickstart our running game- Put Zander's in for a series, run that zone read and we'd put a stop to the DE crashing down shit real quick. I know this is nuts as were already dealing w dividing snaps between Mauk & Lock but I've been intrigued by Zander's and what he could do for a while. Not gonna happen but would love to find a role for him
