Another opinion on the QB situation

I try to be objective and patient. But ultimately it comes down to this: Mauk is what he is, and after two years and 20+ starts he has not progressed. The receivers are partly to blame this year, but in 2013 and 2014 Mauk was a 52% completion passer even with better/more consistent receivers. He is very streaky and his judgement has not improved. He throws too many interceptions and had at least 3 dropped against KY. In his third year of experience he should be leading, and should be able to compensate for some of the youth and the lack of talent around him. And he is not doing it.

HCGP refusing to sit Mauk will be detrimental to the team this year and potentially next year. How do current players stay focused when you never know what to expect from your QB other than erratic play? What about the message it sends to recruits? With the lack of health/depth at RB we need at least a threat at QB, including someone who can be a threat in the mid-range passing game.

Starting Lock is risky because he IS only a true freshman. I understand that. But I also think that Printz, Zanders or Lock could have led MU to more than 9 points against UCONN and at least matched the 13 against KY if they were given enough snaps to gain a little rhythm and confidence.

Wouldn’t it be prudent to give Lock or one of the other QBs enough reps to have a CHANCE to show progress when Mauk has been given more than enough opportunity and has proven that he is not going to progress?
