I work at a large KC metro district. Every year, there are tons of kids who choose to go to Arkansas for school. Arkansas offer in-state tuition to KC area kids and is seen, for some reason, as a "cool" school for kids. I always try to convince these kids to go to Mizzou instead but Arkansas offers more scholarships and is cheaper for kids in our district. And, again, for some reason it is seen as cooler for kids to go there. It is frustrating to fight this battle each year to keep Missouri kids in-state. My own daughter is at Mizzou but she has many classmates who went to Arkansas. There is no metric that grades Arkansas as a better school than Mizzou but we continue to lose students to them. Just this week, three kids who were planning to go to Mizzou are now, instead, going to Arkansas. Frustrated by the lack of scholarship money and work that Mizzou does to keep in-state kids home.
