52,000 for homecoming? Jesus. Do we have clairvoyant fans or something? I understand staying away in retrospect but nobody knew that crap game was gonna happen.
We can have as big a pity party about this year's product on the field as we want. But we need to show up. We are in the SEC now. Look at all the joke seasons Tennessee football had under Derek Dooley for several years prior to the last few and their huge stadium still had huge crowds. South Carolina drew 73,000 for UMass yesterday. When Arky finished last in the West their fans still showed. We need be at that level.
Yes I know, "but the protests blah blah blah." Again, none of that would dissuade SEC fanbases from showing up. It was easy to overcome the whole cultural arguments about whether we fit in during the excitement of the first year in the league or in seasons when we were going to Atlanta. But the off years are what will define our program.
The Mizzou fandom specializes in cynicism and a waiting for the sky to fall attitude, always has and understandably so. But we need to let go of that and start to show some of the lemming like optimism and faithfulness and reality defying delusion that we used to make fun of at places like Nebraska or Tennessee. Because one thing about delusion, it puts butts in the seats. So say it with me: we will turn the corner and make a Cinderella run to a bowl victory this year, it's gonna be awesome, and you and I and 65,000 of our closest friends will all be there to see it! Yeehaw!!!
