The fall college football season is seriously in doubt. Yesterday, Dallas and Travis (Austin) counties set back all K-12 in person education (for both public ISDs and private schools) to September 8...at the earliest. For high school football, that means no games and even no practices until Set. 8. There are numerous complications. First, games were due to start I late August. Second, as it is now, other counties may, or may not, have these restrictions. Frequently, sports districts cross county lines and school districts are also not limited to a single county. So, there could be different rules for schools in the same ISD and/or in the same sports district. Next, it will be very difficult to simply move the all, or most, football start dates because with play-offs the teams can play up 14+ games (with the various state finals in mid-December). This also could have a major effect on recruiting. Finally, not sure if these medical directives apply to colleges. Imagine if SMU and UT could not practice until Sept. 8. Or, if TCU (in Ft. Worth...Tarrant County) and North Texas (Denton) are not effected, but if SMU is this will be a real mess. Not being a negative Nellie; just trying to keep everyone updated. Good luck; stay safe.
