Barry Odom made the fatal mistake of hiring both an unproven offensive and defensive coordinator simultaneously. You would think if he was going to gamble on one side of the ball he would try to create some level of certainty on the other side.
Hiring two unproven coordinators is not likely to work in the Power 5, much less the SEC.
I’m guessing Coach Odom won’t make this mistake in his next coaching job.
I never disparaged coach Odom, and I wanted him to succeed as much or more than anyone. But, I think we will need a new defensive coordinator to improve on defense and it’s hard to see the offense improving next year without a proven QB. So it may be best to opt for wholesale change.
