Starts in nine minutes
Disappointed in the way they played Saturday. "I know you're getting tired of hearing me say that and I'm getting tired of saying it."
"There's no way in the world we're going to play as inconsistent as we did on Saturday and have a chance to win a game...Our margin of error is zero."
"The clock is ticking. I get it, I feel it."
Kentucky good team, playing well, lot of respect for Mark Stoops.
No results on MRI of Scherer. "I'd say he'd be doubtful for this week." Also no update on Beckner, Gibson. Gibson may practice toward the end of the week. They're having another meeting later tonight on Scherer.
Jason Reese, should practice tomorrow and be back.
Asked Odom for clarification on his comment he needs to help more on the defense. Said he's been in defensive meetings, going to help that out. Said he's been trying to balance both sides, need to spend more time on defense.
Burkett, Beisel, Garrett can all play weak side if Scherer can't go. Terez Hall can play SAM and MIKE. Will have to replace his ability to make the calls, checks, etc. Will be a group effort.
Missed tackles, they work on it in practice. "We've spent more time than we did last year, more than I did when I was at Memphis. Maybe we're trying to tackle too much. I don't know. It's not working. It's not relating to how we're playing in live competition. I've got to find a way to get it fixed."
Odom says you can coach tackling. "I believe anything we do in the game of football I can coach it and I can fix it."
"I'm trying to help in every area that I can...As the head coach everything goes across my desk and I want to do everything that I can to get it right."
Likes the staff, loves the team. "We're not winning yet. We will."
Cross and Heupel make calls during the game. But it all goes through the headset and Odom can veto it. As a HC, he remembers what it's like being a coordinator and he wants them to feel comfortable that he's not looking over their shoulder all the time.
Doesn't think the players are resisting the scheme.
Says the parts of the job other than being involved in the defensive dynamics has maybe taken a little more time than he thought (My question was if he's been involved as he hoped to be when he got the job). "There's a reason I'm standing here today as a decent defensive coach."
Odom says Witter didn't get knocked out he doesn't think. Medical staff did evaluations, "he cleared every measure that we have."
I asked about targeting: He's thought for about five seconds. Says the camera angle, the position of the offensive player, "No I don't." Says the rule's very specific, officials have explained it. But it's still very tough to define.
Every week they turn in questionable calls throughout the game. They hear back from Steve Shaw. Usually hears back on Monday evening. I asked if they turned in the one on Frazier from Saturday or the one that wasn't called on Lock. He said "Every week we have a few plays we turn in."
"I knew what our roster was (at the beginning of the year)...I didn't think we were going to roll our helmet out there and go roll through people." Said they can be much better obviously, though.
Says penalties, turnovers was one of Pinkel's biggest strengths and it's "got to become and it will, who Mizzou is." Kicking game, taking care of the ball, areas of emphasis. "That's got to become our trademark. It's not like we're not trying to get there. It's a work in progress. We will get there."
"We're good enough. We've got to coach them to go play better."
On J'Mon: Got to keep working and practice better, work on ball security, work on beating man coverage.
