I took some time to figure out all the possibilities for where Missouri could wind up seeded in the SEC Baseball Tournament, provided it qualifies. Simply put, Missouri has to win at least two of three games against Tennessee to make the 12-team field. If it wins one or fewer, it will not make it. If the Tigers do win 2 games or pull off a sweep, they are not necessarily guaranteed the No. 12 seed. Here are the different possible scenarios (assuming every series this weekend sees all three games played; no weather cancellations.)
If Missouri wins 2 of 3 games against Tennessee:
-- And Mississippi State wins one or more games against Florida, Missouri is No. 12 seed.
-- And Mississippi State is swept by Florida, Missouri is No. 11.
If Missouri sweeps Tennessee:
-- And Mississippi State loses its series against Florida, Texas A&M is swept by South Carolina and Vanderbilt is swept by Kentucky, Missouri is No. 9 seed.
-- And two of those other three things happen (Mississippi State losing its series, Vanderbilt getting swept, Texas A&M getting swept), Missouri is No. 10 seed.
-- And one of the three outcomes listed above happens, Missouri is No. 11.
-- And Mississippi State takes at least two of three from Florida while both Texas A&M and Vanderbilt win at least one game, Missouri is No. 12.
It's a slow time of year. You're welcome.
