In a thread earlier this week about basketball attendance and Mizzou's poor showing, there was discussion about surrounding population being one of the factors. It made me curious. There's an interesting tool (http://www.statsamerica.org/radius/big.aspx) out there that allows you to find population within a specific radius of a given town, etc.
Using a 50 mile radius, here's what this site has for population within that 50 mile radius for each of the schools of the SEC, Big Ten, and Big XII. Not surprisingly Mizzou is in the lower quadrant here. Only 5 of the 38 schools have a smaller population within a 50 mile radius of their city - Alabama, Miss St, aTm, k state, and Texas Tech. I don't really know how much it means...and I meant to pull attendance numbers for all these schools, but I didn't. I just thought others might be interested in seeing it.
