I have seen written on here many times that we can’t be a blue blood in either sport. And I say horsesh&t because there was a time when we were pretty much in both sports you can argue basketball but in football we were from about 1959 to 1978 the reason was is a simple statement most of the players were from Missouri and I’ll give you some names let’s start with Andy Russell,Gary Lane, Gus Otto, these are just a few that were at the time 4 and 5 star players.

And what everyone wants to feel is what we felt then that it didn’t matter Notre Dame,Alabama, Ohio State Michigan we expected and more times than not we beat them both home and away and didn’t have the feeling going into the game “oh I hope we win “ and in 1968 I remember it like yesterday at the end of the 1968 Gator Bowl which was preempted by the media stating Bear Bryant of Alabama was going to school us. Alabama had -45 yards rushing and when asked after the game what happened Bryant stated they ran over us like a bunch of school kids and our stars were 4 and 5 star Missouri kids Or at the time would have been ranked that way.

Right now out of the top 8, 4 and 5 star players in the state we have one committed to us And one uncommitted to nobody the rest committed to other programs, we can be a blue blood. And I know easier said than done but if somehow we can keep these kids home like we did then we once again are a blue blood. And that goes for basketball also.
