I have a lot of time on my hand lately. MY mind has been trained on the SEC EAST championship for the goal for this 2021 Mizzou team for that to be possible I see 4 pivotal games:
Game #2 vs Kentucky - Advantage - Early in the season the new offense will not be fully incorporated. Any passing attempts will likely involve Wandale Robinson thus are telegraphed. Blue wall is not as stout as previous years. No real QB depth that I am aware of.
Disadvantage- unsure of what the offense will look like under the new Offensive coordinator via the L.A Rams. Running has been their past forte. Relatively easy to get a running attack on the same page
Bottom Line: We get them to early in the season for them to be an issue. Added depth to the D-line should help solidify a win.
Game #5 vs Tenn- Advantage - New QB for the Vols and a lot of roster turnover bodes well for us as VOls offense will go through the same growing pains that we did last year except with a possibly greatly reduced roster. As we all know a new offense can be hit or miss
Disadvantage- Again the film on this offense will be only at 4 games by the time we see them Pitt and Florida film will be invaluable as to what to expect with new coaching and possible looks.
Bottom Line: We should be able to win this game at home against a Former Missouri coach.
Game #9 vs Georgia - Advantage- Games versus Kentucky and Florida may give us an advantage especially coming off a game at Vandy the week before. The loss of Pickens to the NFL should bode well as well as an improved pass rush and new secondary philosophy.
Disadvantage - Georgia recruiting has been top notch and I am sure they have someone lurking as a potential replacement for the production lost from Pickens
Bottom Line: We need to win this game to win a share of the SEC Title... If there is a game I am worried about is this one, but I am confident it will be a better game due to a much improved pass rush. I'd say that this will be a 10 pt game or less based on how things develop.
Game #11 vs Florida - Advantage - The turnover on this roster from last year mainly defensively ... The loss of Trask, Pitts, and Toney will cause this team to be a shell of itself.
Disadvantage - Mullen as much as we may dislike him he has seemed to get his team ready.
Bottom Line: The game versus Georgia is more of a worry for me.. I think That a game against A&M can bolster confidence against the East if we show well in that game. It could potentially be a early look at the SEC Title game. This game is a Mevis FG win game.
While I understand I am being optimistic in my assessments I believe whole heartedly at this time that the D-line will be a major difference. I also think that the zone concepts will allow for our defense to put up points to help the offense or at least to put them in scoring position. The Georgia game can be the game that gives us our First SEC East crown since 2014.
So, Am I correct or just a FAN-atic ... I need football!!! LOL
