At halftime yesterday, I realized how badly out of shape I am as a basketball fan. I was exhausted from jumping up from my seat for 3-pointers, screaming at bad calls, booing at Bill Self and yelling MIZ-ZOU to drown out beaker trash noise. I'm going to need an extra day at the gym every week from now until November 10.
Shout out to the Antlers--present, past and future--for being there in big numbers. I'm sorry your signs were confiscated. ("If you can read this sign, you had more rushing yards than ku yesterday.")
Keep it clever and classy. It's probably a good thing the Antler alumni were way up high. Antlers & beer at an arena tend to color the chants. (Believe it or not, Antler rules don't allow alcohol before game. After is another story.)
Sophie and Lindsey Cunningham were two rows behind us. (Just name dropping that.)
We have a raw, young, talented team. It will be fun to see how they develop this season. I saw toughness and board crashing. These kids won't back down to anyone.
A few thoughts on Sprint Center, P&L, KC: Sprint Center is a cluster for entry. We got in line at 2:20 and just made it to our seats in time for the National Anthem. Why are there so few entry points?
And getting out? Friends who came to the game with us but sat in another section, took the stairs down but then weren't allowed to use the door to the outside. They had to go back into the arena crowd to go out the main door.
The woman in the red blazer who runs out to the FT line to guard the court during timeouts is still just as serious about her job as she was at the Big 12 tournament in 2012.
Power & Light was packed before the game with 810 sponsoring all kinds of contests: limbo, FT shooting and a dance competition to win lower level tickets. The dance competition was hysterical. Young Mizzou Beta Theta Pi member from Springfield was the only guy and he clearly won, but they called it a tie. His roommates were standing behind us. They didn't notice that he had ripped his pants in the first round. But the moms in our group did. Good thing he hadn't picked Sunday to go commando.
And to the poster who said earlier this week that my idea of parking at River Market and taking the streetcar was a bad idea. You were wrong. We parked for free near the City Market streetcar stop, had brunch at Brown & Loe at 11:30. Walked a block and hopped on the streetcar to P&L. Had a beer at P&L and watched the contests from the level above. After the game, walked two blocks to the street car, got the first train heading north to our car in the now empty lot, hopped on 70 W and were seated at (Andy Lock's) Third Street Social in Lee's Summit for dinner at 6:10. Our CoMO friends were very impressed with how easy it was to go to a big game in KC (except for the whole getting in and out of the Sprint Center itself.)
Sunday was a good day. Combined with HoCo House Decs (and great Big Daddy BBQ food truck brisket nachos) Friday night and HoCo win with pre- and post-game tailgate Saturday, it was a great weekend to be a Tiger.
