So I was gonna wait and do this bracket update post tomorrow, once we knew who made it to the Final Four... But I'm up this morning looking at everybody's brackets and it's just so intriguing how this might all play out that I had to share it today, before they even play these Sunday games that could make or break about 90% of our people's brackets.
Just to recap, we had 66 entrants participate in the bracket challenge this year (and with that kind of turnout, we're definitely gonna do it again next year)... So 66 participants who each put in $5 apiece, that makes our grand prize $330, and we're doin' it winner-take-all.
So I'm looking at the brackets and going into today's games, it looks like we've still as many as 40 participants who still have a shot at winning. Now many of u who are still alive, need a very specific set of circumstances to win and the best u can do is tie somebody else (mostly b/c u all have the same amount of points now and u have the same picks the rest of the way, so the best u could do is finish in a three-way or six-way or even 10-way tie)... That's how it looks for most of u in the 20s, 30s, and 40s... But those of u in the single-digits, 10s, and teens, it looks like most of u have a shot at winning this thing by urself with no ties and no having to share the money prize, if u get the right set of circumstances over these games today and the games next week.
Right now, our 1st place leader is our boy BoCoMo, who has a whopping 710 points thanks to Michigan's win last nite... BoCoMo is easily in 1st place, nobody else is within 60 points, thanks to his huge 1st round when he got 27 of the 32 games right... And BoCoMo can build on his lead with the games today if Texas Tech & Duke both win. (I also saw on Twitter that BoCoMo is leading in the Rock M Nation bracket challenge too, so kudos to u, my brotha! Nice job!)
Unfortunately tho, even if those two teams win, BoCoMo could still lose the contest b/c his national champion pick Virginia lost early... That means the window is still open for others to pass BoCoMo if the games go right today and their national champion pick comes thru... Most everybody left has either Villanova or Duke winning it all, so obviously those people are in good shape having to rely on one of the two best teams left to win for them.
BoatDan is in 2nd place, he's got 650 points... He jumped like 6 spots thanks to Michigan's win last nite... And he would win our contest if both Villanova & Duke win today and Villanova goes on to win the whole thing... Unless.....
all that happens, but it's Michigan v. Villanova in the title game, b/c then FBCoachJB1 & Jason/Sedid would tie for the win... And that's not even counting what happens if it's Michigan v. Duke in the title game... I think anybody has Michigan winning it all, but there are several people who picked Duke, so that scenario could get down to the nitty gritty.
IDK, maybe I'm the only one who finds this interesting, but my bracket is completely busted. I've got no shot at winning... But following all this the last couple of days, has had me pivoted on my couch and in front of my laptop trying to figure out what each win means and who it helps and who it hurts.
And then there's the situation with my wife... AmandaWillWin is her name for the contest and she doesn't follow college basketball at all... At most, she might watch some of the Mizzou games with me... But mostly, she doesn't even like to do that b/c she says I'm annoying to watch the games with... I yell at the tv, the refs, and the players too much... And she says I pause & rewind the game too much, so she gets confused over what's happening and so she doesn't like watching the games with me.
But she did do a bracket this year... She had no idea who she was picking or why... But going into today's games, she's in 3rd place with 620 points... IDK how she did that... And she's got a legitimate chance to win b/c she's the only one who picked kansas to win it all... And I know she did it just to spite me (and u guys) b/c she knows we're all big Mizzou fans... And she might be able to win it even if kansas doesn't win it all, as long as kansas plays Michigan in the title game b/c that would mean Villanova and Duke both got eliminated, which would knock out most of u remaining contenders... BoCoMo could do the same thing if Texas Tech reaches the title game b/c he's the only one who has the Red Raiders going that far.
It's so crazy how this whole thing has played out!... If u're one of the ones who joined us this year, thanks for doing so, and I hope u've continued to pay attention b/c upsets or not, u might still have a chance to win this thing... Best of luck to everyone!... Oh and nobody had Loyola, so I didn't even look up what happens if they win it all... I guess it would depend on who they played.
