Burden passing strategy

Last year and the first game this year it seems like most of the passes to Burden are either behind the line of scrimmage or deep throws. I think he would be more effective catching 5-15 yr slants/routes. The one pass Thursday in that range resulted in a TD.

Is there a reason why he gets few throws in that range?
