OK, so I am traveling to Taiwan and Korea in April. I have almost always booked American Airlines and through Expedia's Hotels.com.
I have an AA credit card and a ton of miles (closing in on 400K). However, AA sucks to book with miles if you don't book 10 months in advance.
I am looking into the Amex Platinum which gives me Centurian Lounge access (better than Admirals club, but not as many locations), I booked flights, EvaAir over to Taipei, then some other Taiwan airline to Korea, then AA from Seoul back to DFW.
I am going to try and stay at Grand Hyatts in both locations, but I am wondering, is it better to book with AMEX (free breakfast every day and $100 room credit per stay) or book through Hotels.com (Am a Gold Member) it's about $30 cheaper per nite, so about $200 cheaper for stay, but I don't know if I will get a free upgrade or not. If I book through AMEX, I get 5X points on AMEX card, which I can use for hotels or airlines, and I get Hyatt points with Hyatt for future upgrades at Hyatts.
I need the advice of the OT Travel Savants.
