Changes I'd like to see the Tigers make for the South Carolina game
1. Move McGovern to Left Guard. Looks like Crawford will be out Saturday and Chappel to RT. McGovern's a 5th year senior and should be able to step back into either Guard position. Don't like Abeln at LG, let him back up Boehm who had a bad game at Kentucky, Boehm is hurt and if play doesn't improve give Abeln some snaps at Center. LT - have said it for 5 weeks - give Cuellar at start at LT - put a TE with him if he needs some help, but make the move.
3. Hansbrough still is not right. Sit him until he can play. Would love to see Hunt get a chance, but Witter had decent stats and starts with Hunt getting more carries and Hunt has to be your short yardage back. Would still like to find out more about Abbington - 1 carry a game doesnt tell anyone much.
2. Return game on Kick-offs is non existent. Let Wingo return Kick-offs and lets see what he can do. Sherrils is a good Safety, not sure KO return is his niche. Leave Penton at Punt Returns for now, but need to consider other possibilities. This team really misses Murphy.
3. WR - leave Leftwich, Brown and Moore - but Wingo and Dilosa must see the field more. Wingo's speed is electric - have to keep getting him involve and find a QB to get him the ball deep.
4. Mauks last start if things don't improve, but go 2 series Mauk and 1 for Lock the entire game. I know this is counter to Pinkel's philosophy, but Lock needs more experience and time - like Wingo, must get him on the field more. Would be fine if Lock started, I don't think Pinkel is there yet, but it's getting very close.
5. Defense - only great concern is whether LB's can cover receivers. If Kentucky burned MU with this type of coverage, Spurrier will definately go after it. Prefer a nickel back and 2 linebackers on field in obvious passing downs.
6. Who takes Brothers place this weeK? Maybe Newsom with Green starting. Also Burkett more playing time. Defense will play tough - they are still miles ahead of the Offense. Just need to get them off the field more often.
This game is huge. Lose to South Carolina with Florida coming in the following week a 3 and 3 start is a real possibility. It will be a dog fight to get 6 or 7 wins. Need the Bowl Game to keep momentum and recruiting on the positive side of the ledger.
I'm a Pinkel supporter and think he will get this fixed. Note to Henson and Ricker on the OL. I use to tell my Managers not to be "so rigid that your being stupid." This OL is, and has been, a mess all season. Move McGovern back inside.
One fans opinion.
