So I'm skeptical after that. No question. I would downgrade my season win projection and worry about next week.

But that said, I'm going to fall back on something I've said a thousand times: One week has almost nothing to do with the next in college football, especially this early in the season. 11 am against a nothing opponent with a million new guys on the field, maybe they just weren't into it and had a bad day. You can argue that shouldn't happen, but you can't argue it does. So maybe at 6 pm against South Carolina next week they come out fired up and playing great defense. Not gonna predict it, but it wouldn't shock me.

Offensively, can't find anything to complain about. But I'm not gonna do cartwheels either. Drew Lock had all day to throw, the receivers were running wide open all over the field and the running backs had holes. A lot to like, but I saw this team look this way a couple times last year and then fold like a cheap tent against a good team. If they can do it again next week (not 70 points, but maybe 40), I'll be a bit more bullish.

Tucker McCann still scares the ever loving you know what out of me. And it's gonna remain that way until I see him make every kick for a month.

Barry Odom was pretty chipper after the game. Maybe that's from the Ned Yost playbook of "I'm gonna remain ultra positive and never let my guys see I'm discouraged." But maybe he really thinks they're a lot better than this and the fixes are easy. I don't know. We'll find out next week.

Next week is monstrous. No other way to put it. Need a win. Doesn't matter if it's 3-2 or 80-78, they just need a win. Get that and everybody's gonna forget about today.

Player of the Game: Drew Lock. Kind of tough not to be when you break the school record for touchdowns and yards.

Rookie of the Game: Rashad Brandon. This guy's a monster. I'll be shocked if he doesn't start next week.

Quote of the Day: Me--"Were you surprised to be in a dog fight and still have the starters in in the fourth quarter?"

Johnathon Johnson--"I wouldn't say we were surprised, but we were, maybe, shocked."

I'm out. Videos, photos, notebook, reaction, etc on the front page. Grade card and a new Sunday feature the 3-2-1 Day After report coming tomorrow.
