Well, they won. And that's good. This team isn't good enough to complain about a win. Ever. So that's out of the way.
Maybe there's improvement. But I haven't seen it on anything approaching a consistent basis. They went 8:29 without a field goal and 6:59 without a point. Against a BAD Western Kentucky team. And make no mistake, they're bad. The final possession was awful (for those who blame everything on the coach, Rick Stansbury has been around awhile and said his team had exactly what it wanted on that play, the forward had his man pinned in the paint and WKU simply didn't throw the pass in there...so it's not always as simple as the coach drew up a stupid play). Anyway, WKU is bad and Missouri won by a point. So that's not good. For those who will point to the Xavier game (as Stansbury did) that was five games ago and right now looks like the exception rather than the rule.
Frankie Hughes is capable of being white hot or ice cold. Sometimes both in the same game. Terrence Phillips is the best player. Russell Woods is the only big man right now (Mitchell Smith may well develop into something but it's gonna take a while).
Jordan Barnett is three games away. I assume he will start immediately. As I said after last game, he'd better be Superman. I worry about pinning the hopes of a significantly improved season on a guy that couldn't get on the floor at Texas, but we'll see.
Quick note, the following names are on Western Kentucky's roster: Junior Lomomba, Marko Stajkovski, Que Johnson and Pancake Thomas. Solid.
Done with hoops, we'll be monitoring football visitors tonight and in the morning and will be in touch with them as they leave town Sunday.
