Photos, video and my column on the front. About to post Keegan's game report
I'm going to say this and I'm going to say it emphatically: WELCOME THE HELL BACK, MIZZOU BASKETBALL. IT'S BEEN WAY TOO DAMN LONG.
Some of the air went out of the arena when Porter left. But you know what? It came back. When Jeremiah Tilmon dunked and Jordan Barnett made threes and Kevin Puryear put together a hell of an all around game and Cullen VanLeer hit the floor and Jordan Geist was "a pest." (Cuonzo Martin's words). That was fun. That was what it used to be like. Back when people cared and came. Back when you never really considered Mizzou might lose here.
This is gonna be fun.
I think at some point this year we're going to have a discussion about whether Jeremiah Tilmon plays a second season.
If you don't feel good for Puryear, you have no soul. All this kid did was give everything he had to a team that just wasn't good enough to make it matter for two years. He was a lifetime Mizzou fan, a great representative of the program and they were awful. For the first time in his career here two things happened:
1. He didn't start
2. He looked like he was having fun
Tonight might have been the best thing that could happen. Missouri proved it can win without Michael Porter Jr. to everybody...including Michael Porter Jr.
Iowa State's not great. But they're better than Lipscomb and NC Central and UMKC and, well, you get the point.
I don't know if Missouri's great yet. But I know they have a chance to be. Wagner is next. I'd sit Porter again. Even if he's healthy. Just to send the message that "Hey, we're pretty good now. We might be great with you, but we might be great without you too." Maybe that's harsh, but I'd do it.
Anyway, good night for the Black and Gold. Halfway through a great weekend.
And I'll leave you with NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOORRRRRRRMMMMMMM
