I didn't know if this team had this in it. I didn't know if ANY team had this in it. To come from where Missouri was last Saturday night to where it was this afternoon is very, very impressive. This is the best game Missouri has played since the win over Texas A&M to clinch the SEC East title in 2013. They were incredibly impressive on offense and defense and they didn't hurt themselves on special teams.
Barry Odom has been piled on. I've been a part of the pile. He has deserved some of it. But if you're going to pile on when it's bad, you give credit when it's good. And, my word, was that good. They've said for weeks they were close. They proved it today. There's a lot this team will have left on the table a month from now. But that can't be changed. What can be changed is the last month. A week ago, if you'd have taken a poll on Missouri's final record, I doubt 8-4 would have received a vote. It wouldn't have received mine. Take that poll today and I'd vote for Missouri to win out and go to a hell of a nice bowl game, probably on January 1.
Some individual standouts:
Drew Lock. Best game he's played as a Tiger.
Damarea Crockett. There was a time I thought he might sulk and be the No. 3 running back and transfer. Kid's a leader. Credit to him.
The offensive line. Fantastic.
Daniel Parker Jr. This kid was a defensive end three months ago. He played a whale of a game.
Emanuel Hall. Maybe one day he'll let us behind the curtain and tell us how hard this last month has been. I can't imagine. Good for him.
Tre Williams/Akial Byers. These should be your starting defensive ends.
Cale Garrett. He probably won't be first-team all-SEC. But he should be.
Christian Holmes and DeMarkus Acy. Great game.
I think that about covers it. We've got video and my column on the front. Mitch is finishing up the notebook. Grade card in the morning and we'll find a time to get snap counts and the PFF grades up either from the airport or on the plane. Enjoy this one guys. It was fun to cover.
