Kelvin Sampson in his third year at Washington State was 1-17 in conference. He has a worse record in his second season than his first, he had a worse record in that third year than his second season. His teams seemed to be regressing. Having said that, it was a different time. There was no free transfer rule. You could pick up a juco player or a high school freshman, but you were not getting grad transfers like you are today. But, Sampson turned that around and got Washington State to the NCAA tournament 4 years later and now is considered one of the best coaches in the country.

Can Gates do that? We honestly don't know. What we do know is he hit all the right buttons his first year. He has not pushed one right button this year. Is he closer to the first year or this year? Again, we DO NOT KNOW.

What we do know is he has connections and can recruit. What we do know is he is respected among his peers. Unfortunately what we also know is that his teams are probably not going to be defensive or rebounding juggernauts.

I am cheering for him. Why? Because I Mizzou is MY team. I NEVER want them or any coach here to fail, while here. If he can turn things around that will be best. Because if not, then we go through another coaching search and start over from ground zero.

I just want wins and to enjoy my alma mater.

M-I-Z!!!
