First, a caveat: This is premature. Very, actually. But if we're acknowledging this is a make-or-break season for Kim, then it's potentially handy to have an early list of coaches to keep tabs on.
I did hot boards last spring. That's not what I'm doing now. I'm not putting up Power Five coaches. Nor am I listing retreads -- i.e. guys like Steve Lavin -- sitting out right now. Finally, there won't be detailed dossiers on them. This is just a list of dudes I'll occasionally check on once the season tips off.
Good luck to Jim Sterk if he has to make a change. I don't see a situation where a guy like Mick Cronin decides to poke around and investigate another job. Sterk inherited Fisher out at SDSU, so he's seen how a coach that had run-ins with the NCAA can rehab his career. Maybe that's a boon for Sampson. Still, it'll be interesting to see which coaches emerge this season.
