So we currently have a QB with terrible mechanics who isn't progressing, WR who can't catch or run correct routes or block without holding, and OL who can't block Ohio Valley or Sun Belt defenses.
Yet we have two longtime WR coaches on the staff, with one of them coaching QBs. Is Hill capable of giving Maty the coaching he needs? Is Hill better at coaching WR than Washington? If this continues do we need to consider a shake up or switch?
We have 2 current/former OL coaches on the staff, with one serving as OC and TE coach. We have a lot of OL that we allegedly really wanted sitting and watching a mostly unheralded group (Boehm being the only high level HS recruit starting) that was suspect in the spring, suspect in camp, and has been awful through two games. Why are our OL recruits not improving enough to play earlier in their careers? How can an SEC contending team continue to have to have to move a new guy to LT every year because they can't recruit or develop guys who they trust to play there until they are seniors having to move to LT from other positions?
I really don't know if this is truly philosophical on the part of the staff, or are there some serious conversations and decisions that need to be made. We either aren't recruiting or aren't developing high enough level OL and WR to match the progress at our other positions, and we have a novice QB coach whose first pupil isn't progressing. There needs to be some serious improvement as the year progresses, and I expect that there will be some. How much is seen will determine the season and if a discussion like this needs to intensify.
