An interesting story on another site (which I won't link out of respect to PowerMizzou) which ranked college football programs by decade. They used a simple system. They used the AP (which started in 1936) end of year rankings. If you finished number 1 in a year you received 25 points, #2 24 points, #3 23, all the way to #25 1 point. In the early years they didn't rank 25 teams. Here is Mizzou's ranking by decade:
