Source tells me Missouri will raise the numbers of John Brown and Derrick Chievous to the rafters at Mizzou Arena. Not sure on an exact timetable, believe it will be some time in March.
Brown played for Missouri from 1970-73 and was Norm Stewart's first big in-state recruit. Norm has talked many times over the years about Brown's importance when he was establishing his program. Brown made the 1972 US Olympic team but did not play due to injury. He was the No. 10 overall pick of the Atlanta Hawks in the 1973 NBA draft and played seven seasons for the Hawks, Bulls and Jazz. The power forward from Dixon, MO averaged 19.7 points and 10 rebounds a game and was a first-team all Big Eight selection as a junior and senior. He left as Missouri's all-time leading scorer with 1,421 points.
Chievous, from Jamaica, NY, played for the Tigers from 1984-88 and scored 2,580 points, the most in school history. He was a freshman all American in 1985, a second team all American in 1987 and all Big Eight in 1987 and 1988. He made 764 free throws in his career, which ranks 10th in college basketball history. The Band Aid Man made more free throws in his career than any other Tiger has even attempted. He was selected 16th overall by the Houston Rockets in the 1988 NBA Draft. He played three years with the Rockets and Cavaliers. He was inducted to the Mizzou Hall of Fame in 1996 and the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.
