As always, we start with yesterday's links to catch you all up. Here is yesterday's DDL

The big news from yesterday was the commitment of 2017 quarterback Rey Estes. See Josh Helmholdt's analysis of that development.

So let's talk about what that commitment means. Not on the Jeff Thomas front, but on the QB front. We have said all along Mizzou would only take a 2017 QB in one of two situations:

1. An elite QB wanted to come aboard
2. The QB would be capable of playing another position

Now, let's be clear about something: We're not pushing Rey Estes away from quarterback. Not at all. He was recruited as a quarterback, he'll start as a quarterback and when you watch him, he obviously has some quarterback skills. So Missouri is taking him as a quarterback. But when we say he's capable of playing another position, that's all we mean. Most QB's, if they come in and don't win the job, either take up a scholarship for no reason for four or five years or they transfer. With a guy like Estes, he offers you the possibility that if he doesn't win the starting QB job at some point, you might be able to make him a safety or a wide receiver or whatever else. That's a good thing. It offers you flexibility.

So what that means is Mizzou is on to 2018 QBs. The caveat to that, again, might be if someone they view as an elite QB wanted to join the class. Of course, at this point, that would require said QB to flip his commitment from another Power Five school because every quarterback Missouri has offered in this class is committed to another Power Five school. So let's assume that isn't going to happen. That means Missouri is on to 2018 quarterbacks.

Here is a quick look at all 16 2018 QBs who list Mizzou interest right now:

A few notes on those guys: Allan Walters visited Texas A&M yesterday. Jack Tuttle has visited Mizzou already (we will talk to him about that visit in the near future). Jaden Hill picked up a Mizzou baseball offer as a pitcher recently as well. Too early to say where Mizzou stands with a lot of these guys. Just wanted to kind of get the picture out there for you all.

The only visitors we're aware of this week are from Bishop Miege. Mizzou commitment Jafar Armstrong and his quarterback, Graham Mertz (HUDL: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/5368957/graham-mertz), are planning a trip to see practice on Friday. Mertz is a 2019 QB who was at Night at the Zou a few weeks ago.

**Here is this morning's newcomer Q&A with linebacker Cale Garrett (who, appropos of absolutely nothing, really reminds me of Ivan Drago). Garrett confirmed he is taking second team reps in practice. I'm virtually certain he'll be Missouri's backup middle linebacker and will see the field from day one. When Pete talked to Trey Baldwin earlier this week, Baldwin told him he "wants to be like Cale Garrett." Williams said if you tell Garrett something once, he remembers it and knows how to do it from that point on.

**Today's big story will be the introductory press conference for Jim Sterk at 11 at Memorial Stadium. I'll be there and will pass along any info and have a story afterwards.

1038 AM UPDATE

An update on 2016 Jerod Alton from Jerod Alton

For those who need a translation, Alton has been finishing up a class this summer. This would indicate that class will be done and he'll be in CoMo on August 22nd, which fits with the timeline we've been hearing. So that's good news.

Also, I'm now at the press conference for Jim Sterk and will pass along info in a separate thread. Here is the link to that thread.

Here is our story from Sterk's presser.

Tony Adams from SLUH is announcing tomorrow. Nothing official or confirmed, but we feel good about Mizzou's chances.

We will update this post throughout the day.
