On Sunday, Rivals held their first Camp in over a year at Coppell (Tex.) High School, just outside of Dallas. There were quite a few Missouri targets on hand, particularly along the defensive line, but I was also able to get the latest from a wide receiver target and an intriguing cornerback the Tigers just reached out to.
Here are the updates from Dallas:
- McClellan's recruiting process has been busy of late, adding roughly 11 new offers in the last month. Heavy hitters like Florida, Ohio State, and Southern Cal have entered the mix - the three-star prospect said will be taking officials to all three of those programs. Not sure who will get the other two, but LSU and Auburn were two other schools that he also named that are sticking out. The Oklahoma native also said he won't be taking all of his officials during the summer and will take some in the fall. In terms of Missouri, McClellan has them in the mix as well and said he will be at Night at the Zou, which he said will be June 2nd. That date hasn't been confirmed on our end, but apparently that's the date the coaches are communicating.
McClellan took home defensive line MVP honors at the camp.
- Scarlett has mentioned Missouri as one of his top schools in numerous interviews leading up to Sunday's Rivals Camp. The Tigers still hold a very strong position with the four-star prospect. Scarlett said he's in the process of scheduling a summer official with Missouri. The Tigers competition currently includes Texas A&M and Oklahoma, he's hoping to take officials with the Aggies and Sooners as well. This recruiting process could play out for a while though, as the Texas native said he doesn't plan to commit until after his senior season.
- Johnson, the newly offered defensive end, was also among a group of talented prospects from the state of Oklahoma that participated in Sunday's camp. The three-star said he did a virtual visit with Missouri's staff on Saturday. He said that Missouri is currently his top school right now and he's looking to take an official at some point this summer. Baylor is another program that just entered the mix and has also caught his attention, sounds like the Bears will likely get an official at some point as well.
- Moss is a defensive end target that recently picked up an offer from Missouri back on March 15th. He has also established a good initial rapport with Missouri defensive line coach Jethro Franklin and likes that they both have similar backgrounds coming from military families. The three-star prospect already has June officials scheduled to TCU and West Virginia. Mississippi State is also a school that will likely get an official, although, they prefer Moss to visit during the upcoming season. Despite things being in the initial communication phase, I could see Missouri getting an official from Moss if they want to press forward.
- Anderson has five official visits setup for June, they include Southern Cal, Cal, Notre Dame, Arkansas, and Florida State. The three-star prospect attended the Tigers first open spring practice back in March. It's the only visit he's taken so far and he noted it was important for him to get up and see Missouri first-hand. While he said the Tigers are still in the mix for him, they aren't getting an official. That's usually not a good sign. Time will tell.
- Malaska is a prospect Missouri just initially reached out too a couple of days ago. The three-star prospect told me he actually talked with corners coach Aaron Fletcher this morning. Malaska is an interesting prospect, he moved to the States six years ago from Haiti where he played soccer. He started playing American football in seventh grade and began to take it seriously as an eighth grader. He has early offers from Kansas, Tulsa, and Eastern Michigan and says other programs like Vanderbilt and Kansas State are also showing him interest along with the Tigers.
I'll have stories on each of these players mentioned throughout the week.
