Ok, so I know the chances of David Yost and his amazing hair showing back up in the Faurot field press box coaching the Tigers are extremely low but I did want to remind folks of how valuable he was for us and get people up to speed on what he's been doing since.

  1. While he was at Mizzou, Yost established himself as one of the most successful quarterback coaches in the country. He Over 12 years he recruited/developed the following QB's in succession: Brad Smith (NFL), Chase Patton (elite 11), Chase Daniel (Elite 11, NFL), Blaine Gabbert (Elite 11, NFL), James Franklin.
  2. After leaving Mizzou - he walked the earth for a year and then restarted his career at Washington State working with the Pirate himself for a few years as his inside WR coach.
  3. Mark Helfrich brough Yost on as his OC and QB coach at Oregon in 2016 and Yost had a decent year before Oregon cleaned house (including Yost). His offense was 20th nationally in efficiency despite having a true freshman QB that he was working with. That true freshman Justin Herbert had a rock solid first year on the job and looks the part of another future NFL quarterback.
  4. In 2017 - Yost took over as OC and QB coach at Utah State (coincidentally where Huepel was before coming to Mizzou). Utah State saw moderate improvement from their offense in year one under David Most.

If Yost had never coached here before I think just about everyone would be on board with him coming back. Maybe not over Graham Harrell but Yost was a hell of a coach and a great recruiter. During his 4 years as OC there were a couple of instances of the offense failing to produce and it was very closely tied to injuries. When his offenses were healthy, they were good.
