In addition to my gigabit data circuit from Google Fiber, I currently subscribe to their TV service as well. The TV service is being discontinued on 3/31/22, so I'm shopping other options in preparation for that.

Cost isn't an object, but here's what I'm paying for right now and what I've learned so far, including certain content that's important to me. Interested to hearing the experiences of others with DirecTV Stream, in particular, because I'm leaning that direction.

Google Fiber: $130/mo

DirecTV Stream: $90/mo for their "CHOICE" package
  • Includes: Bally Sports Kansas City (Royals, Sporting KC), Tennis Channel, SEC Network, MLB Network
  • Excludes: NFL Network
  • Features: Unlimited in-home simultaneous streams, 3 simultaneous out-of-home streams, and unlimited DVR storage (purges at 3 months)
YouTube TV: $65/mo
  • Includes: NFL Network, SEC Network
  • Excludes: Bally Sports KC and Tennis Channel
  • Features: 3 simultaneous streams, ability to separate family members into 6 separate accounts, and unlimited DVR storage (purges at 9 months)
Hulu bundle: $76/mo
  • Includes: NFL Network, Disney+, and ESPN+
  • Excludes: Bally Sports KC, Tennis Channel, and MLB Network
  • Features: 2 simultaneous streams, ability to separate family members into separate accounts, limited capacity DVR (can pay $15/mo extra for unlimited streams & DVR)
Sling TV Orange+Blue with Sports Extra packages: $72/mo
  • Includes: NFL Network, MLB Network, Tennis Channel, SEC Network (had to add extras to get these)
  • Excludes: Bally Sports KC
  • Features: 1 stream only for some channels and 3 simultaneous streams for other channels, limited capacity DVR (can pay extra for up to 200 hours)

Notes: The Bally's regional sports network is a pretty big deal in my house across all family members. Bally's already announced it won't have a stand-alone, paid streaming app until the 2023 MLB season, at earliest. The Tennis Channel and MLB Network are important to me specifically. NFL Network is a go-to as well. Lastly, I'm currently paying for Disney+ as an independent service, Netflix is free with my T-Mobile account, and I subscribe to HBO Max too.

My personal experience with DirecTV satellite television service was one year of misery, which has me skeptical of its streaming service quality and reliability.
