Heard an interesting idea on the cover 3 podcast... they are speculating that with the Football and Basketball players eventually moving to paid employees, that other non-revenue athletes and teams would move to club sports and not be affiliated with major leagues. That would take away a lot of scholarships for students not in the revenue sports. Their thoughts were that this is possibly 10 years out, but with the way things are going this is what they see coming...
I don't like this. The non-revenue scholarships off the opportunity for kids to go to school who might not have had the opportunity; especially females. If this is about revenue, then we need to ask, is this the role of sports in the collegiate environment? Or if this is where it is going, is it time to break it off and call it what it is...
