Thank you everyone for your excitement of Lucas signing as a free agent with the Tennesee Titans, we are so thrilled! It was a very long 3 days and I am glad it is over!
I thought I would just share with you some of the "behind the scenes" stuff...lol
We knew day 1 he was not going, so that night was just waiting and being so excited with Shane's name was called!
Day 2, we were told there was a small chance Lucas name could be called late in the 3rd do to some phone calls his agent has fielded, but we also knew his best chance was on Saturday. So we sat back, ate BBQ and cheered when Mitch and Markus' names were announced. We were so happy for all 3 of our guys that had been drafted!!
Day 3....the atmosphere was a little different in the house. 4th round had some DTs drafted that had Lucas turning his head side ways at, but ok, they were solid players. Round 5 came and some additional DTs were drafted that made Lucas shake his head. Round 6 came, DTs drafted made him say WTF? Then some phone calls came...."we will be drafting you with our next pick." AWESOME! Guess what, next pick came, his name wasn't called. Not cool. Round 7, repeat of round 6, expect phone calls for free agency start coming in. Not to say the guys round 5-7 was not deserving to be drafted, but it was very hard for Lucas to watch these guys with 2.5 career sacks, and 10 career TFL get drafted and not him. Now don't get me wrong, his agent did not want him drafted after round 5 unless it was by a couple certain teams as he already had the teams Lucas would have the best chance and making the roster and the best fit for....one of those was the Titans.
While he had choices of teams to pick from for Free Agency, including the Rams and Chiefs, Tennessee was the best fit based on their current roster and what they are wanting to do with Lucas. He was offered more money from other teams, but his agent advised him that the few thousand dollar difference was not the goal here, the goal was to make the roster and he really feels like he will at Tennessee.
Again, thank you all for your support and encouranging words over the years and I am sad to see his Tiger Era end, but excited for what the future holds! MIZ
