Just a guess but my thought is the NCAA did not want to overturn the sanctions. However, they did not want the horrible pub of altering a conference championship. As insane as it sounds Mizzou controlled it’s own destiny going into this game.
Now the only thing the bowl ban effects is maybe the Birmingham or Independence Bowl line up. If this team finishes 7-5 or 6-6 they will be last or second last team taken. They have played in most of the second tier games somewhat recently. With the exception of the Gator and Bell bowls. Despite what the SEC says they do give the Gator a bit of a preference. They would be insane to send Mizzou to the Bell Bowl because there would be maybe 500-1000 fans that would go.
If Mizzou would still get the full share of Bowl money I would bet there would be some back channeling to say hey drop everything else but keep the Bowl ban. But because they are out $4 mil for good and would need to wait a couple of years to get the other 4 they will still want the damn thing lifted. Maybe the best thing Arky could do for us is beat us and all but guarantee BO is gone.
