I recall a lot of Mizzou fans disappointed in Mauk's performance last year. I'm not a football expert by any stretch, but I think his season went just as expected last year.
Optimistic fans tend to think highly recruited high school kids instantly will succeed in college. Many forgot that he was only a sophomore, and rarely are second year QB's superstars at any level, college or pro.
Further, it really isn't fair to compare him to C. Daniel. Chase had a litany of future professional recievers to throw to. I would argue that his recieving corps was as good as you can find in college football, for any team. Yet many times we saw his numbers comparing (not always unfavorably) to Daniel's first year.
Having made those points, I think that this will be a very good year for our QB. We know he is a winner, he has proven that. I think the biggest improvement will be his decision making. I doubt his arm can get much better, but his style of play should truly benefit from another year of experience and coaching. He is a thrower, first and foremost, but one of his greatest weapons is his ability to scramble and also run straight ahead. In my mind, that is all decision making.
I am hoping he has a year like AJ McCarron did. Super consistent on a run-first football team. I don't expect big numbers, but a more methodical, patient result.
