there's been a fair amount of discussion over the last few months about whether Missouri supports the basketball program financially at the level it should. Found this interesting. Martin has a budget of $1.1 million per year to pay his assistant coaches plus the director of ops, the strength coach and the director of video operations (Or at least that's what it was in 2017 when he was hired, it's possible it has gone up since then) Here is the salaries of those individuals according to Mizzou's database:
Cornell Mann (Assistant Coach) - $244,837.59
Chris Hollender (Assistant Coach) - $204,003.86
Marco Harris Stevens (Assistant Coach) - $125,810.67
Nicodemus Christopher (Director of Athletic Performance) - $149,232.21
Paul Rorvig (Director of Basketball Operations) - $82,024.62
Michael Schumacher (Director of Video Operations) - $59,636.91
That adds up to 865,545.86. That leaves an extra $234,454 Missouri is not spending per year right now. The difference is almost exactly the difference between Marco Harris making $125K and Michael Porter Sr. $375K per year. Basically, when Mizzou let Porter leave, it simply didn't spend that money. This number could also be a little bit off currently depending on what Marcus Edwards is making vs what Nicodemus Christopher was making. I don't know Edwards' salary and could not find it.
Now, I'm not going to pretend that I know whether paying all the assistants more or hiring a third assistant who should make $250K rather than one who is making $125K is going to immediately make some monumental difference in the program. Rather, I'm posting this because I think it backs up what I contended during this original discussion a couple of months ago, which is that it's not that the money isn't there. It's that Martin is opting not to spend it at least in this particular area.
