I normally watch and critique other teams. I find myself saying we could beat them if they ran that against us. Now I just watch in amazement as other SEC team score points. It looks easy. They complete passes. Run for first downs. Makes me wonder how is it even possible that the offense only scored 7 points on UConn? And the funny thing is we had to go for it on 4th down to get 7 measly points. I cannot remember feeling this demoralized before entering conference play.
The offense is literally getting worse every game. And I know some think that Hansbrough will be the answer. He is a really good back but lets not pretend he is Todd Gurley. I don't think it is that simple.
Our QB is not one of the better players on the team. He just isn't. He gets a lot of praise when things go well and heat when it goes poorly. But that is normal. He touches the ball every offensive possession. I don't know that Lock is the answer this season but I think it is criminal to not let him try and string together a few drives in a row. And I actually credit Pinkel for trying him in the 4th quarter. I think if Drew drives us down and we punch it in for 6 then we have a real legit controversy. As of now, I think Drew needs more series to get in the flow of the game. I mean what is the harm? We need to try and get better. Watching the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is dumb.
Maty is not getting the job done. He is not the guy he was in High School. He is never going to be. That guy would have crushed a 3 man rush. Crushed it. He isn't that guy anymore. He isn't even a plus QB. He has been painstakingly given plenty of chances to prove that he can. I get his record being great but also I am a realist. We cannot be competitive with him playing this poorly. It just isn't sustainable. The defense has to be perfect. Not just perfect but actually score too. He is a RSJR. How he can still make the same boneheaded plays is beyond me. The middle of the field is completely ignored. On a day when he had all day to throw, all day, he was terrible.
Now I understand, we won the game. That's what matters most. Win the game. But I just don't see any improvement, life or optimism from the offense.
