Yeah, I know it's early. Yeah, I know we have a nearly totally new coaching staff. But hey, it's not THAT early, and we have a grand total of 3 commitments. We are tied with kU in the Rivals team recruiting rankings. Remember when UK hired Stoops, UT hired Butch, and they just tore it up on the recruiting trail (esp the latter)? We were told that it was bc they were the hot new coaching commodity in the SEC. Well, what happened to our recruiting bounce with a new, younger coach and staff?
In the beginning, I wasn't a big fan of the BO hire for 2 reasons. 1) Never been a fan of True Son hires, unless they are a no-brainer. BO had never been a head coach in D1 football, so that hire was not a no-brainer IMO. 2) I think it's a better idea to hire a coach who has been an OC, rather than a DC. Maybe this opinion is just me showing my ignorance, but when I think of a DC being elevated to head coach, I always think of what a train wreck Muschamp was at Florida.
But during the hiring process, I started to listening to people on the board who I really respect, and I began to think that BO might be a good hire. At that point in time, I trusted ADMR, so when he hired Barry, I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. After the hire, Odom did and said all the right things, and I was tentatively on board. I still am. Not as excited or optimistic as if we had hired a Tom Herman, but I'm cautiously optimistic. If it weren't for the cluster that will be our O-line this season, I could see 8 or 9 wins for 2016.
But I'm very disappointed in this staff's recruiting effort so far. Granted, I have no idea what's going on behind the scenes, or how the class will end up, but so far I'm greatly underwhelmed. I must admit that I'm obsessed with the 2016 O-line. IMO, it has the potential to drag down this team to depths that may be hard to crawl out of for years to come. I can only hope this staff does something to shore up this gaping hole (no pun intended) for 2016, and that they end up with a top 30 class for 2017.
This was not meant as a trolling attempt. Just tossing back a few brews and venting my frustration. Wondering what you guys think about the recruiting effort so far and where you see it ending up for 2017. MIZ-
