what a great story from my friend, also former head of mlb.com
“Fifty years ago, on my third birthday, we were honored guests of LBJ at the White House. I was starving and didn't know any better, so when my grandfather was among those gathered for important discussions with President Johnson, raw animal instincts kicked in. I walked into a fancy dining room where dignitaries were consuming an aromatic meal and proclaimed: "Excuse me, but we kids are hungry too." LBJ picked me up, sat me in his lap and said, I'm told: "Only Judge Hofheinz's grandson would have the confidence to come in here and express that fact so honestly." The President of the United States proceeded to share his plate with yours truly right then and there. Four days later, LBJ told the nation he would not seek re-election. I don't recall giving him that wise advice as we traded bites of potato galettes and June peas. But don't rule it out. This, btw, is not a political post, so please spare me any history lessons or comments on current events. The lesson: If you smell something, say something.”
