I read the book Gabe recommended, Play Their Hearts Out by George Dohrmann, and I second his recommendation. Dohrmann covers eight years of players who were identified at 9 and 10 years old and follows their progress through AAU, high school, and college recruiting. There are some specific accounts of certain coaches. Tim Floyd looks terrible. Lon Kruger looks like a straight shooter
For those of you who watch Better Call Saul, I can't help but think of recruiting without thinking of Jimmy saying to his brother, "Come on down Chuck, roll around in the dirt with me." I do wonder both how dirty Kim Anderson is willing to get.and if recruiting can be done at all without getting dirty.
As for Mizzou connections, there was an account of a tournament in Orlando where the featured team of the book beat a team called Little Mizzou Tigers by 3 points. I wonder who was on that team and who coached it. Does anyone know anything about an AAU team that goes by that name?
