Attendance rankings:
The two most important factors...a combination over-all athletic success and TV viewership names your top 64 teams. Logic says if you suck at both Football and men's basketball...your viewership is NOT GOOD!
Teams like us and Kansas need to take heed as we are seemingly close to the cut line.
AT MIZZOU...it doesn't matter how many TV's we have...what's important is tyhe number of people actually watching (aka viewership)
AT kANSAS...it doesn't matter how good you are at Basketball...if you SUCK ath the #1 sport of football your viewership is not going to be good overall.
With this model below...there is a sembalance of balance between the four conferences although there is more power in the Southeast and Northeast.
The WEST simply needs to have much earlier kickoff times when playing in the far west time zone. Have those kick-offs at 11:00 AM or 3:00 PM their time...which means the rest of the country can watch those games at a decent hour if there is a compelling match-up.
Have a CROSS-OVER GAME every year between your conference and one of the other conferences (EX: one year the Midwest plays the west in this cross-over weekend...the following year go against another conference...the third year the other...then start over. If you are a long ways away...play at a neutral site half way between in a NFL stadium with good airports available.
Have two divisions of 8 teams each in each conference....and then three cross-over games with the other division,
The 7-team division schedule...plus the three cross-over league games...plus the one cross-over conference game gives you an 11 game schedule...and the flexibility of adding a 12th game of your choosing against an old rival.
Athletic Directors are warned in they lag in athletic performance and viewership...the are subject to being CUT and replaced with the next best team in their respective region.
Pretty radical I know...and it will never happen. However, I think it makes more sense than where we are headed with East Coast and West Coast teams in the same conferences.
I'll enjoy reading the comments that will surely follow my far-fetched post
